Funlife Plaza stands out for its unique features and strengths. The mall includes a racing car corridor for children to ride toy cars while their parents shop, a treehouse for children to play in, and a ceiling inspired by Lego blocks that hides the mall's name, stimulating children's imagination. The design concept is encapsulated in the mall's slogan, "Let's go go", a playful twist on the word "Lego".
The design process involved overcoming several challenges. One of the main obstacles was persuading the client to break away from typical shopping mall ideas and allow children to play freely within the mall. The design team also had to carefully select floor materials that would not be slippery for customers but would be smooth and safe enough for toy cars. Floor leveling was another crucial aspect to consider.
The mall's interior is characterized by a simple white background with splashes of red, yellow, and blue. This color scheme encourages children to draw and color on the walls, floors, and even the toilets, further enhancing the mall's playful and creative atmosphere. The use of PVC flooring and an ALucobond metal panel system in the facade, measuring 3000 x 250mm, adds to the mall's modern and innovative aesthetic.
The Funlife Plaza project started in March 2016 and was completed in December of the same year. The design was based on the characteristics, features, and form of Lego blocks, reflecting the designer's commitment to creating a space that encourages imagination and creativity. Funlife Plaza's innovative design and focus on children's leisure and education have earned it the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award.
